Rockhampton races preview September 13

The Rockhampton Jockey Club’s Darryn Nufer found winners Madra Rua ($17.90) and The Tax Accountant ($2.30) with his on-top selections at the last Rockhampton meeting and runs his eye over the seven races at Callaghan Park tomorrow.

Race 1 – Small field for the stayers and tempo will again be the key. Aloof’s Turf won the 1800m race here a fortnight ago when he walked in front, nothing took him on and it was a sprint home. May not get his own way here with Extra Cover likely to push forward as well but that being said can’t see them going too quickly. Plain ‘n’ Simple ran Aloof’s Turf to three-quarters of a length here last time and despite the tempo being against Plain ‘n’ Simple he got home his last 600m quicker. Again meets Aloof’s 5kg better at the weights so prepared to gamble that he can turn the tables. Extra Cover rarely runs poorly and is a genuine winning chance. Murphy’s Hussler will appreciate the claim.

SELECTIONS: (5) Plain ‘n’ Simple; (1) Aloof’s Turf, (2) Extra Cover; (3) Murphy’s Hussler.

Race 2 – The Tax Accountant (pictured) returned in great order winning here a fortnight ago. Should have taken benefit from the run and whatever beats him wins. Our Top Shelf has been racing in great heart but does have to contend with 59kg which is some query. Gohan has shown some ability in short career to date. Wicked Grimshaw may improve but then again he has to.

SELECTIONS: (2) The Tax Accountant; (1) Our Top Shelf; (3) Gohan; (4) Wicked Grimshaw.

Race 3 – Static Lift should be ready to show up now with two 1400m runs under his belt since joining the Jamie McConachy stable. All Eez wasn’t disgraced at the Sunshine Coast last start and the run was better than it looks on paper – form prior was good. Craiglea Cetina has to be included on her last two efforts. Guissola has been disappointing and is fast running out of chances.

SELECTIONS: (1) Static Lift; (2) All Eez; (7) Craiglea Cetina; (3) Guissola.

Race 4 – Turkey Beach was game under a big impost here last time and third-up should be primed to run well. Looks well in with 56.5kg. Chief Advocate has been racing in great heart and just wants some speed on to be finishing off. Sky Brook could be an improver at odds. Malkara hasn’t put a foot wrong since joining Clinton Thompson but is up where it hurts now (59kg).

SELECTIONS: (3) Turkey Beach; (5) Chief Advocate; (6) Sky Brook; (1) Malkara.

Race 5 – Colorado River has surely found his race here but wouldn’t be putting the hard-earned on to find out. Last start he drew the carpark and ran home well clocking the fastest last 600m of the race. Distance suits and if he doesn’t win today, when will he? Starbeats was also getting home okay that day and could be the testing material. Whoosh goes in on the basis that it’s not a strong maiden and he wasn’t far away last outing (did beat home both Colorado River & Starbeats). Bel Sands is not having much luck with barriers but may be worth including.

SELECTIONS: (1) Colorado River; (12) Starbeats; (8) Whoosh; (10) Bel Sands.

Race 6 – This is D-Day for Blazeray, the ex-Waller galloper, who is starting to prove costly for followers. If he can’t put this mob away his future prospects look questionable. The outside alley may not be too bad for Rapt In Black as he can press forward and runs his best races when up on the pace. Ana’s Idol could be an improver. Circuit Judge is drawn to get a nice run.

SELECTIONS: (1) Blazeray; (2) Rapt In Black; (5) Ana’s Idol; (3) Circuit Judge.

Race 7 – Thought Amber’s Girl finished the race off okay here last time getting home her last 600m quicker than Margo Maree who’s also entered and could be ready to improve third-up. Nasty Gal was brave in defeat last time and may be better suited back to 1200m although wide draw is some concern. Margo Maree has gone 3-3-2-3 and just can’t find a way to win but the jockey sure knows how to. One at bolter’s odds who could run a cheeky race is Southern Albatross. Is an open race and chances don’t end there.

SELECTIONS: (11) Amber’s Girl; (4) Nasty Gal; (3) Margo Maree; (10) Southern Albatross.
