Rockhampton races preview September 20

The Rockhampton Jockey Club’s Darryn Nufer found 4 of the 7 winners with his on-top selections at the last meeting and previews the Callaghan Park card tomorrow.

Race 1 – Now Ask Me rises in class after two straight wins but she is on the up and can give this a shake. Chief Advocate looks to have found a suitable race after running well in Class 6 grade at his past two. In-form trainer & jockey combo with Lord Marmaduke has to be respected. Ruby Ray has raced okay here in the past. Be surprised if the winner came outside of the top two selections.

SELECTIONS: Now Ask Me; Chief Advocate; Lord Marmaduke; Ruby Ray.

Race 2 – Heartbreak Harry has been racing in great heart. Was a nice effort at Mackay to run second last start. Can go one better. Malkara drops significantly in weight for this and looks suited. Clateau returned to the winner’s stall last time at Mackay on a day which suited leaders. Embrace The Pain has been out of form but perhaps is the best of the rest.

SELECTIONS: Heartbreak Harry; Malkara; Clateau; Embrace The Pain.

Race 3 – Despirito hit the line nicely over 950m at Cairns last start and out to this trip should be ready to fire third-up. Wary of the Darryl Hansen visitor Lickety Lachie who was doing best work late at the end of an 800m scamper at Kilcoy on debut. Would have preferred Attique to draw better but off a couple of handy Yeppoon trials can feature. Marway has drawn to get a good run.

SELECTIONS: Despirito; Lickety Lachie; Attique; Marway.

Race 4 – Mystic Forces should be ready to fire here third-up and drawn the inside marble with Justin Stanley aboard has a lot in his favour. Blazeray steps up in grade after win last time but fitness is on his side. Have to respect the trial effort of newcomer to this area Magmellou behind the flying Paradis Imperial at Yeppoon recently. Might just need the run. Throwing Enemy Of Man in on spec with the 3kg claim.

SELECTIONS: Mystic Forces; Blazeray; Magmellou; Enemy Of Man.

Race 5 – Liked the run of Colosseum King here last time in what will prove a handy form race. Bound To Me has been flying and despite stepping up in grade has claims on the minimum. Annie’s Our Hero returned to the winner’s stall courtesy of a rails hugging ride at Mackay last start and drawn to get a nice run. Our Boy Pendles may be slightly under-rated and form duo of Wehlow & Wiggins and gate one all plusses.

SELECTIONS: Colosseum King; Bound To Me; Annie’s Our Hero; Our Boy Pendles.

Race 6 – Magic Word didn’t have things go his way at Mackay first-up and could go one better here. The caution is the wide barrier from the 1050m start and would rather watch on than get involved from a punting perspective. Liked the trial win of Style Line (beating The Tax Accountant) at Yeppoon recently and she could be the each-way play if they put up silly odds. No Finer Jet has work cut out from wide gate but last run puts her in this. Meg’s Inheritance and Lady Mirabella have drawn to get good runs in a maiden affair not to get too excited about.

SELECTIONS: Magic Word; Style Line; No Finer Jet; Meg’s Inheritance.

Race 7 – Little Hunter was good winning here last time out and Nasty Gal has since franked the form. Goes on top. Craiglea Cetina has been racing okay and must be included. Colorado River blew away a weak maiden field last time and the mile should suit. Changing Currency has raced well here previously.

SELECTIONS: Little Hunter; Craiglea Cetina; Colorado River; Changing Currency.
