CALLAGHAN PARK MILE WILL SUIT TOOWOOMBA-TRAINED FIVE-YEAR-OLD

Former Rockhampton-trained gelding Whatjeudoin’, now with Toowoomba’s Matt Kropp, could have found an ideal race to return to the winner’s list at Callaghan Park on Tuesday.

Kropp and premier jockey Justin Stanley will team with Whatjeudoin’ in the MP Security BM 60 Handicap (1600m).

The lightly raced five-year-old has been craving long-distance races, but he didn’t find many of those in central and north Queensland. When tested over 1600m or longer, Whatjeudoin has improved out of sight.

From 20 starts, two of Whatjeudoin’s wins have been over 1800m and the other 1500m. Whatjeudoin’ has only had the one run this preparation, finishing fourth at Callaghan Park over 1400m just under two weeks ago. In that race, when he was ridden by Olivia Kendal, he raced back in the pack and was doing his best work over the last 150m.

Whatjeudoin’ is by Nom Du Jeu, a sire of staying horses from Biancrazy, a four-time middle distance race winner, by Bianconi. All the progeny from the maternal line have been stayers and include the Group race winners On A Swing and Sarajay.

Nom Du Jeu, by Montjeu, won the 2008 Australian Derby (2400m) and finished second to Godolphin stayer All the Good in the 2008 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and eighth to Viewed in the 2008 Melbourne Cup (3200m). He is the sire of Group 1 NZ Zabeel Classic winner True Enough.

VALE SHOOTS FOR QTIS 3YO MAIDEN QUINELLA

In the first of eight races, the Great Northern QTIS 3YO Maiden (1400m), at Callaghan Park, trainer Ricky Vale has a top chance of training the race quinella.

His runners are the improving Capricornus (Raul Silvera-Olivera) and Zelezny (Ryan Wiggins).

Both gallopers look close to winning a race. Zelezny has finished runner-up at its last two starts in Mackay and Rockhampton and Capricornus has not been too far behind its stablemate. Zelezny was a $110,000 yearling at Magic Millions, purchased online by Vale for a fraction of the original price last November. Capricornus is a graduate of the 2023 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale, purchased by Pav Cheimardinov for $22,000.
