Callaghan Park turf track renovation update – 13 September 2024

Back to News

The Callaghan Park turf track renovations were completed by Twin View Turf late last week.

After dethatching, aerating, coring, and Verti-draining the surface, 650 tons of sand topdressing has been applied evenly over the track and the sand has been brushed into the turf evenly. This renovation is undertaken to let more moisture and nutrients into the soil. It also increases the oxygen in the soil and increases microbial activity. The process which is undertaken annually will make the Callaghan Park turf stronger, healthier, and more drought tolerant.

RJC Track Manager, Trent Williams, and Racing Queensland’s Dave Morrison reported yesterday, following their inspection, that the recovery of the grass is good and will improve even more with the application of granular fertilizers this week. The track received 2.5mm of rain overnight. Foliar applications will be applied today and the next week the RJC team will mow the turf track for the first time since the renovation.

Racing is on schedule to return to Callaghan Park on 4 October 2024.
