Racegoers are getting ready for a big day of racing, glamour, and entertainment at the not-to-be-missed RJC Caulfield Cup Day at Callaghan Park on Saturday.

The seven-race local card will be filled with fun and entertainment at what is the Club’s best social race day of the year.

Local racing features the Carly-Mae Pye Memorial Maiden (1200m) and the St Peter’s Birdcage Handicap (1600m).

Pye is lovingly remembered by the local racing fraternity, 11 years after her tragic death.

The jockey passed away following a fall in a jump-out at Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park racecourse in October of 2014.

The RJC has continued to recognise her legacy in the years since the jockey. who put her heart and soul into racing, died.

The race is now an annual feature with the Club the Memorial Maiden in her name and honour. The Memorial race has attracted 12 runners including two from Toowoomba, two from Mackay and one from Thangool.

Toowoomba trainer Mark Currie, who won the trainers Bonus at the Rockhampton Cup Carnival, is back in Rockhampton and his joined but another from the Downs, Dale Groves.

Both have two runners at the meeting.

In the Memorial Maiden, Currie saddles up former Victorian, East West Miss to be ridden by Jackson Murphy, while Groves has the topweight The Boss Man (Rob Thorburn).

Tim Cook, who apprenticed Carly-Mae Pye, will be out to win the race trophy that he will present.

Cook will start Three Tees, a last start second placegetter in Rockhampton. Three Tees has shown a liking for its home track. The 4YO by Hellbent has only raced at Callaghan Park three times for two minor placings.

Jockeys who served their apprenticeships and rode in races alongside Carly-Mae Pye will compete in the Memorial race wearing black armbands as a mark of respect for the late jockey.

The first of seven local races starts at 12.01 pm. You can jump the race day gate queue by buying General Admission tickets online.

The entry gates open at 10.30 am.

In addition to the reserved catered areas there are several places to eat and drink on track have been established in the fast-food outlet, food trucks & the Brookvale Van which will be serving food and beverages in the public area.

Everyone is invited to kick on after the last race at the After Party on the front lawn with local legends, the band The Short Fall, rocking out the best dance tunes.
