The Rockhampton Jockey Club’s oldest member Bruce McKenzie is its newest Life Member after being awarded the honour by Club Chairman Rob Carr last week.

The 95-year-old has been attending Callaghan Park races since the 1940s when he raced his first horse Cherry Duchess. A thoroughbred breeder in past years, Mr. McKenzie stood the very successful stallion Sir Geraint in the 1950s and 1960s. Mr. McKenzie is one of four new RJC Life Members. Mrs. Maureen Olive, Val Beak, and Hannah Smith have also been awarded Life Membership this year.
