Dale Evans, one of Rockhampton’s most naturally talented jockeys will make a low-key comeback to race riding at the Rockhampton Jockey Club’s bumper seven race TAB program at Yeppoon next Tuesday.
Evans 39 has not ridden in a race since bowing out a winner on Potemkin at Alpha races on June 26, 2019.
In a star studied, albeit at times a controversial career, Evans has accrued almost 1000 winners since commencing as a baby faced 15 years old in Rockhampton.
A son of long retired accomplished Rockhampton jockey Gary Evans and brother to current Toowoomba based jockey Nathan and retired Rocky jockey and now trainer Michael Evans, he will be one of a roster of 16 jockeys riding at the Keppel Park meeting.
Stewards recently issued Dale with his “ticket to ride” after competing in a number of barrier trials.
Dale Evans is only one of a handful of jockeys to have ridden two Rockhampton Cup winners, Riva Rebel (2002) when an apprentice and then Konray Star as a senior jockey in 2005.
Very much gifted, Dale has ridden winners in three Australian States with metropolitan winners in Morphetville as well as 40 in Brisbane.
He has ridden hundreds of winners at Callaghan Park while at Keppel Park, Yeppoon where race meetings are infrequent, Evans has won 29 races.
On Tuesday his services have been snapped up by astute trainer Kerrod Smyth for whom he has been busy riding among others a multitude of horses’ track work each morning at Callaghan park.
Evans’ only two rides on the day are on the Smyth trained Divine Kamehalani (R 1 TAB 6) and Nic Me Some (R 6-TAB 1).
Meanwhile, star Rockhampton middle distance campaigner the Ricky Vale trained Namazu has settled in well for his assault on the $125K Toowoomba Cup (2000m) tomorrow. (Saturday).
“He is rearing and ready to go. We can’t believe he has been put up as a $7.00 chance which looks great each-way odds”, managing owner Pav Cheimardinov said on Friday afternoon.
Namazu, is listed in Race 7 as TAB 1 and will be ridden by his usual custodian Ryan Wiggins.
Cup chasing at Longreach on Saturday will be the Kristie Clark-Peoples Callaghan Park trained Centaur (Robert Faehr) (R 5 -TAB 4).
Stablemates, Dispute (R 1-TAB 3) and Future Idea (NZ) (R7 -TAB 1) will be ridden by Rocky apprentice Nikki Olzard at the gala Cup Day meeting of the year in the Central West.
At Caloundra’s Sunshine Coast races on Sunday, the Callaghan Park trainer Jason Morgan will race Media Empire (R 5 – TAB 4) and Islero (NZ) (R 6 -TAB 12).
Rockhampton jockey Warwick Satherley will ride both horses.
