Déjà vu for Taylor and Stanley in Breeders Plate on Friday.
Published 6 November 2024
It could be a feeling of déjà vu for Rockhampton’s top trainer and jockey duo Clinton Taylor and Justin Stanley, as well as the army of punters that follow the stable, at Friday’s Callaghan Park Breeders Plate Race Day.
Taylor and Stanley won both the colts and fillies division of the TAB Breeders Plate (1050m) last year with Astapor and Valorous Performer and Taylor also trained the quinella in the filly division with Illtellyougo finishing runner up.
This year Taylor has a very smart race debutante in Don’tdoubtthelady who will line up as the favourite in the $35,000 race. Both sexes will start in the same race on Friday with only one division being raced.
A recent Callaghan Park trial winner Don’tdoubtthelady, one of two Taylor-trained youngsters running, will line up in Rocky’s first two-year-old race of the season from the inside barrier with Stanley in the saddle. Stanley is in peak form. He has ridden nine winners at the last two Callaghan Park race meetings and is well in front in this year’s local jockey standings. A field of eight is set to run in the Breeders Plate with Taylor’s other runner, Bolla Bolla Bade (Ceejay Graham). Don’tdoubtthelady will be kept company on track by her three-year-old sibling Say It Loud who also makes its race debut on Friday. She will run in the QTIS Three-Year-old Maiden (1050m). One of three Taylor runners in the race, Say It Loud will also be ridden by Stanley and has drawn in the middle of the field at barrier 8.
Don’tdoubtthelady (Dubious – Teeka) and her half-sister Say It Loud (Rothesay – Teeka) both trialed stylishly at Callaghan Park on 21 October. Don’tdoubtthelady looked to have a bit in hand winning its trial by 3.5 lengths. Say It Loud had a 2.5 length win over 900m. It was her second trial victory having also won a trial by a space at Yeppoon in September.
Taylor purchased Don’tdoubtthelady at this year’s March Magic Millions Sale for $40,000.
“I already had the sister at home, I knew she had ability, so I wanted to get this filly too, and I did and there’s a nice bunch of owners in her,” Taylor said.
Say It Loud cost Taylor just $10,000 at the 2023 March Magic Millions Sale.
Taylor will saddle up eight horses on the eight-race card and Stanley has a full book of mounts. Friday’s TAB program at Callaghan Park starts at 12.57pm. Track manager Trent Williams has the rail positioned at 2.5m for the entire course and the track is rated a Soft 5, with perfect sunshine, the weather forecast.
