Premier combination Justin Stanley and Clinton Taylor celebrated a day to remember at Callaghan Park’s Caulfield Cup Race Day.

Stanley rode five of the six race winners and Taylor scored a career-best four winners on the six-race card.

“I only said the other day that I have never trained four winners in a day and now I’ve done it, it feels good,” Taylor quipped.

Thousands of racegoers were at Callaghan Park for Caulfield Cup Day with the party sparking up early and finishing late.

One of the biggest crowds in years enjoyed the bands and entertainment provided and there was a great atmosphere for the local races.

Justin Stanley showed why he is the star on the track. The premier jockey got to business early winning the first five races on the program, The aptly named What A Doozy, trained on the Sunshine Coast by Liam Birchley showed his opponents a clean pair of heels in the QTIS 3YO Handicap (1200m), then 35 mins later the Clinton Taylor-trained Hellish gave Stanley an easy steer to win its fifth straight race, the Class 6 (1200m). What A Doozy went back-to-back at Callaghan Park for Stanley. He also won on the 3YO two weeks ago. Hellish hasn’t put a foot wrong since arriving at the Taylor stable with his string of wins recorded at Rockhampton, Mackay, and Yeppoon. Kathy’s Beau wearing the “Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner” colours completed his hattrick of wins from as many CQ starts in the Great Northern Open (1400m). Marina Crossland, the Taylor stable bookkeeper, and her husband Anthony share ownership of the horse. “He is a beauty and has given us a good return on investment,” Anthony Crossland said. The group of friends purchased the horse online for $12,000. Fractional was Stanley’s fourth winner. The Taylor-trained galloper owned in Tamworth never gave his opponents a look in. Stanley guided him to a five-length win in the Phil Peel Jeweller Maiden (1400m), then in race five he kept his record perfect, winning on Magic Game, owned and trained by Taylor, in the TAB BM 60 Handicap (1400m). A $5,000 online purchase Magic Game is still learning how to race. The big mare by Rubick looks like she has more wins in store.

RAUL SILVERA OLIVERA BACK IN THE WINNERS’ CIRCLE

It was a big welcome back for Uruguayan jockey Raul Silvera Olivera at Callaghan Park when he rode the winner of the last race of the day.

Silvera Olivera teamed with long-time local trainer Lyn Sullivan to win on 6YO mare Lynric Lass. In a great ride, he came with a well-timed finish to grab the lead close to the post. The jockey who was having his first day riding at Callaghan Park since having to return to Uruguay earlier this year was quite emotional after the win with lots of well-wishers surrounding him. Ten months ago, Silvera Olivera left Australia and spent time in Kuala Lumpur before returning to his home country. He got a second chance to ride here when last month he was granted another six-month work visa. “I want to thank everyone for everything they have done for me,” Silvera Olivera said.
