Rockhampton Jockey Club (RJC) Chairman, Rob Carr this week welcomed successful international jockey Raul Silvera to the riding ranks at Callaghan Park.

Mr. Carr said that the talented 32-year-old South American jockey arrived in Rockhampton late last week and will begin riding at Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park very soon.  “Raul is currently ranked in the top five Uruguayan riders, and he comes to us with an impressive resume,” Mr. Carr said.

Mr. Silvera’s riding record is: 2470 total race rides for 264 wins and 507 placings. He rode a winner at his last ride in Uruguay at Las Piedras Racecourse in Montevideo, less than two weeks ago. Las Piedras is the second most important racetrack in Uruguay. Mr. Silvera is currently regarded as one of the most effective jockeys in Uruguay.

“Raul certainly conducts himself in a very polished and professional manner,” Mr. Carr said. The jockey’s riding weight is around 53kg and he has won four Classics (Group races) this season and has won a total of seven Classics during his career.

Mr. Silvera, who is currently learning to speak fluent English in Rockhampton, will be a valuable addition to the Central Queensland jockey ranks and Mr. Carr said that he will soon be riding in races and doing trackwork at Callaghan Park. Once licensed Mr. Silvera will also be available for rides on other Queensland tracks in the region.

“A soon as his licensing paperwork is cleared by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, he will be right to go, I’m tipping Raul will hit the ground running” Mr. Carr said.
