New distance markers add colour and clarity!

New distance marker poles have been put into place at Callaghan Park this week, making a bold statement on the racetrack.

The red and white marker poles are over three metres high and have been placed at the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 600m marks in the home straight.

RJC CEO David Aldred who came up with the idea said the new poles have been styled on American racing quarter poles and will specify vital sections of each race for the jockeys riding and those watching the races.

“They are bright and clear and certainly add some colour to the track – and racing is all about colour,” Aldred said.

The poles will be a permanent feature at the Callaghan track and will be on display for the Rockhampton Cup Carnival races on Friday and Saturday.
