Peter Tighe’s ‘golden touch’ did the trick for winning Calcutta trio.

The TAB representatives and the RJC guest speaker at the Rockhampton Cup proved to be canny form analysts, winning the 2024 Cup Calcutta.

The TAB’s David Salmon and Kerstin Thuresson, and the event guest speaker Peter Tighe, part-owner of super mare Winx, drew and bought Hype in the RJC’s Calcutta sweep on Friday night.

When Hype stormed home down the outside of the field to win the Cup, the trio multiplied the return on their purchase 18 times (four points better than TAB odds), taking home over $25,288 for the first prize.

Salmon, the Racing Partnerships Manager at the TAB, couldn’t stop smiling after the result was posted.

“I was jumping up and down like an excited kid watching the race. When they turned for home, I was looking at how Under then Cap was going then when I heard (race caller) Russell Leonard say that Hype had peeled to the outside, I went wow, we’re a chance here,” Salmon said.

Tasmanian Hype trained by Aiden Nunn and ridden by Teagan Voorham scored a convincing 1.8 length victory, defeating local hero Master Jamie and Sunshine Coast galloper Under The Cap.

It would appear that some of the Tighe “golden touch” rubbed off on Salmon and the TAB’s QLD Sponsorship and Events Manager Thuresson at Callaghan Park.
