With a 50 percent winning strike at Yeppoon’s Keppel Park, seven-year-old Letmeletgo is certain to have plenty of admirers on Tuesday. The gelding is one of two Jared Wehlow runners in the Wendy Mulry Travel Open Handicap (1400m) on the eight-race Rockhampton Jockey Club program. Letmeletgo has raced four times at Keppel Park, winning twice and finishing runner-up both other times. In fact, Letmeletgo has been a handy horse for punters to follow, finishing in the money 19 times out of 36 starts. At the two RJC race meetings, this time last year Letmeletgo went back-to-back with victories at Keppel Park in a Class 3 and Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1300m and 1400m before being beaten in a photo finish by Art By Concorde in the Yeppoon Cup (Country Cups Challenge Qualifier) over 1400m. It was a pretty tidy run, given Art By Concorde had won the Battle of the Bush Final at Eagle Farm a few months earlier and subsequently placed third in the Country Cups Challenge Final at Doomben. Letmeletgo went on to prove the form superior as well. He won a Magic Millions Country Cup qualifier over 1600m at Callaghan Park last December, and recorded his biggest race success in June in the TAB Tattersall’s Sprint (1200m) at Callaghan Park, defeating Fastconi and subsequent Rockhampton Newmarket Handicap winner Honkytonk Diva.

Wehlow has given tomorrow’s mount on Letmeletgo to apprentice jockey Olivia Kendal who reunites with the galloper for the first time since their December 2023 victory. Wehlow’s other starter in the Open Handicap is Bondurant who will be ridden by Melea Castle. Apprentice jockey Brooke Johnson may have handed out a tip for this race when she collected the leading trainer trophy for Clint Taylor at the Gala Awards on Saturday night at Callaghan Park. Johnson said that with Chinny Boom and Astapor now with southern stables, “Kick On Command may be the stable’s best horse.”

Premier jockey Justin Stanley rides Kick On Command for the Taylor stable. The 6yo’s best form has been over longer journeys than 1400m with his two most recent wins over 1500m in Rockhampton and 1800m in Mackay in July. Ricky Vale has Knights Sword and Fighting Commando engaged and both horses will run well. A field of 10 will start with the early scratchings of Bering Sea and Starsonic.

Nick Walsh, who collected his trophy for Rocky’s best-winning trainer’s strike on Saturday night has an interesting Central Queensland debutante engaged in the Maiden Plate (1100m). A Brazen Beau 4yo formerly with the Griffth’s De Kock Cranbourne stable, Bigcat has placed twice on the synthetic track at Pakenham and once on the turf at Tatura. A $300,000 Inglis Easter Sale yearling in 2022, Big Cat has raced eight times earning just over $11,000, to date.

The Benchmark 65 Handicap (1200m) is also expected to deal up a good clash between the two topweights Hellish (Clint Taylor/Justin Stanley) and Parade Ground (Ricky Vale/McKenzie Apel). Hellish runs for three wins on end after back-to-back wins at Callaghan Park last month. Parade Ground won the Magic Millions Capricornia Guineas (1600m) in July before placing third in the Townsville Guineas and fourth in the Cairns Guineas at its subsequent starts. Parade Ground has been freshened up and has had place performances over 1200m in New South Wales when formerly trained by James Cummings.

The first RJC race at Yeppoon commences at 12.30 pm.

RJC CEO, David Aldred.
