MCCONACHY AND SILVERA OLIVERA TEAM IN MACKAY
Winning trainer jockey combination Jamie McConachy and Raul Silvera Olivera are out to capitalize on their recent Rocky winning form in Mackay Saturday. (Sat 14 Dec). McConachy will saddle Acrophobic in the Travis’50th Birthday Open Handicap (1560m) at Ooralea. Acrophobic ran fourth to the Silvera Olivera ridden stablemate Sunnycoast at his most recent start in Rockhampton on 29 November when ridden by Brodie Moffat. The son of Dissident wasn’t beaten all that far in the Class 6 (1100m) that day carrying 64.5kg. He drops to 56.5kg in Mackay but has a wide barrier to overcome. A positive is that 7YO Acrophobic’s two wins earlier this year in Mackay were over the 1560 metre distance. Other Rocky runners in the Mackay Open are Stampe, Starsonic, Bering Sea, and Poets Day.
PROMISING LOCAL 2YO GETS TO BARRIER AGAIN
Bolla Bolla Babe has been nominated a few times recently for 2YO races in Rockhampton but hasn’t had any luck due to lack of acceptances. Finally the Callaghan Park Breeders Plate placegetter will get her chance to post a win in Mackay. Trainer Clinton Taylor has engaged apprentice Leah Martyn to ride the Sensai filly in the QTIS 2YO handicap (1050m). On 8 November Bolla Bolla Babe ran third to her brilliant stablemate Don’tdoubtthelady in the Rockhampton TAB Breeders Plate (1050m), then finished third on 26 November to Bang Stick at Mackay over 1050m.
BO BO THE ONE TO WATCH AT OORALEA
Bo Bo Beware cruised home to a 4.25 length win at Rocky’s Callaghan Park two weeks ago and looks set to continue the trot in Mackay. The 5YO gelding trounced Mackay winner General Hippo over 1600m after finishing runner up to the same galloper at its previous run. Apprentice Leah Martyn takes the mount on the Dundeel gelding. Other Rocky horses in this race are Saddles, Roy’s Road and Cannon Hill.
LOTS OF ROCKY HORSES IN MACKAY
Leah Martyn will also ride Trickateer for Taylor in the BM 62 Handicap (1200m). Trickateer won well in Mackay over 1300m last month, The second topweight in this race is Jungle Beat, trained at Callaghan Park by John O’Sing. The five-time winner has a good record over 1200m and hasn’t been far away from the money at recent starts. Another top Callaghan Park hopeful Southaven will run in the QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate (1300m) for John Wigginton and Ash Butler. Southaven looks to be a late maturer and has only had two starts to date. The Power 3YO gelding ran a pleasing second behind Bold Blaze at Callaghan Park 29 October, then at its subsequent start was beaten by less than 2.5 lengths when fifth to The Dark Side on his home track. Peter Fleming starts Supeedo Gonzales in this race and Taylor saddles Travelling Sweet.
