Racing increases statewide contribution

The Queensland racing industry’s impact on the state’s economy continues to rise, now bordering on $2.5 billion per annum. Latest independent economic data delivered by IER – a specialist in the tourism, events and entertainment industries – has once again outlined the industry’s strong contribution to the Sunshine State, headlined by a fifty-million-dollar increase from FY23 to FY24.
From racing’s hub of Rockhampton, CQ’s only TAB club to the 11 Non-TAB Clubs in surrounding areas of the CQ region, the economic contribution of the racing industry is a whopping $81.5 million. Thoroughbred racing contributes $67.7m and greyhound $12.1 million, the total contribution more than double the Mackay – Isaac – Whitsunday region and over $25m more than Townsville and Cairns.
