Jockey Raul Silvera Olivera returns to the races in Mackay on Thursday.

When acceptances came out today Silvera Olivera was listed for one ride on the Michael & Christine Dore-trained Answering in the Class 2 Handicap (1100m) at Ooralea.

It will be the popular jockey’s first day back at the races since he returned from Uruguay last month.

He hasn’t ridden in a race since last February when he injured his shoulder in a race at Bowen.

Silvera Olivera spent months in Kuala Lumpar after he left Australia before returning home to Uruguay.

He was granted a work visa on 17 September 2024 and subsequently had a provincial jockey license issued by QRIC.

On Monday Silvera Olivera looked fit and sharp riding successfully in the jumpouts at Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park.

Silvera Olivera has previously ridden Answering for trainer Bill Kenning. He placed third on Answering in Townsville last November and rode the galloper in another Townsville race in December last year.

Answering, a four-year-old by Agitate easily won a barrier trial at Yeppoon last month but like Silvera Olivera hasn’t been to the races for nine months and won its last race in December 2023.
