Rockhampton-based, South American jockey Raul Silvera Olivera celebrated his first Central Queensland treble of winners and his most important local success when he won the Emerald Cup (1615m) last Saturday.

The popular and hard-working jockey from Uruguay rode the Ray Williams-trained Tricky Beans to win the Cup by almost two lengths, with his mount, a $13.00 long shot, defeating the race favourite Lady Townson (Julie Busuttin) and Emerald local Diaco (Tash Chambers).

“I am very happy, it was exciting to get three winners from five race rides and win the two best races there on Saturday,” Silvera Olivera said.

Earlier in the day the jockey combined with Mark Cohrane to win the other feature race on the program, the Ted Harvey Memorial 2025 Battle Of The Bush Emerald Qualifier Open Handicap (1200m). Real Key defeated Bayerische (Warwick Satherley) and Entrepreneurial (Gaby Semmens).

The middle leg of Silvera Olivera’s winning treble was the Trevor Williams-trained Lady Masquerade. The mare carried 60kg to win the BM 55 Handicap (1280m), defeating Miss Teak (Robbie Faehr) and Mishani I Am (Jamie-Lee Devine).

“It was my first time riding three winners on the one program here, I have ridden this number plenty of times before back home (in South America), but before this my best here was two winners in one day,” Silvera Olivera said.

On Thursday Silvera Olivera has been booked for three mounts, at Callaghan Park. He will ride veteran Fred Smith trained galloper Mocambo who will have to carry 64kg from the widest gate in the BM 70 Handicap (1400m); Miss Rheinhart for Denis Schultz (Class 1- 1200m), and Silverado Miss for Kevin Miller (0-55 Handicap – 1050m).
