Nash Rawiller traded his jockey whip for a fishing rod and made up for a relatively quiet TAB Rockhampton Cup Day at Callaghan Park, landing some great catches on Central Queensland’s Capricorn Coast.

He went fishing with a few racing locals last Sunday and was lucky enough to stay out on the ocean waters beyond Yeppoon for a couple of days.
Rawiller and Co. fished the waters off Pearl Bay, an open 9 km-wide, north-east facing haven for anglers.

The champion jockey won a trophy race last Friday but had just one ride on Cup Day, finishing third on $1.75 favourite, Nagamie for the Bevan Laming stable in the Green Steel Claude Green Memorial Class 1 Handicap (1200m). He had four rides on Rockhampton Newmarket Day for a win and a second. Rawiller won the Rocky Mini Loads Ken Russell Memorial (1300m) riding the Liam Birchley-trained Lone Artist, and his second place was on the Laming-trained Enforceable in the Chas Jones Memorial QTIS 2YO Maiden (1200m). He also finished fourth on Laming’s Bank Maur in the One Syndications Newmarket Handicap (1300m).

Rawiller is pictured holding a couple of nice Red Jewfish that he caught after dusk on the reef in Shoalhaven.
“It was my pleasure to be the Rocky Cup Ambassador for 2025,” the 66-time Group 1 jockey said. “I had a terrific time.”After reeling in a few nice catches, Rawiller was beaming with joy. “There is no better way to relax at the end of the racing season. The fishing made up for a quiet weekend in the saddle, but it’s made me more eager to come back next year and win the (Rocky) Cup,” he said.
