This year’s HYGAIN MITAVITE CYS Carnival was certainly a huge success. The two back-to-back meetings saw record crowds in attendance for their respective days. The first class racing was enjoyed by patrons, particularly last Saturday when a large and colourful mix of racegoers were on hand to enjoy the feel-good atmosphere of the day and the running of the Carnival’s signature race, the CYS 2YO Classic (1200m) which offered around $150K in prizemoney.

The 2022 HYGAIN Country Cup was taken out by Splashing Rossa and ridden by inform local apprentice, Tahlia Fenlon.

Over 1500 people were on track to witness local trainer, Jamie McConachy, win the races everyone had come to see with Sammiballerina saluting in the feature of the day, the DLV finance 2YO Classic, and Courtesy Bus trained by Jared Wehlow taking out the 3/4YO Championship.

Then it was out to the sales on the Sunday with a great crowd in attendance for the 2022 HYGAIN MITAVITE 35th Capricornia Yearling Sale which yielded a record gross turnover of $1.67 million, bettering the previous best of $1.452M established last year.

Some 96 of the 118 yearlings presented were sold which, for the first time, included a Chinese buyer as well as the powerful interstate operation of Ciaran Maher Racing. (CMR).
Through a telephone hook-up ringside, Chinese buyer Mr Li Yung paid $30K for Lot 14, a Better Than Ready colt offered by Sarna Racing and Breeding, Childers.
The colt, a half-brother to the three times Hong Kong winner Happy Tango is destined to do it’s racing in Macau.
Lot 53, a flattering non QTIS but Bobs Eligible bay or brown filly by Denman from an unraced Artie Schiller mare went for $40K to CMR on account of KBL Thoroughbreds, Beaudesert.
KBL sold nine yearlings grossing $220,000 a figure which only Raheen Stud, Warwick bettered with nine making $273,500.

The RJC would like to thank the following sponsors of the 3 day carnival:
DLV Finance
Rton Mini Loads
Rockhampton Regional Council.
