Published 29 August 2025
The annual renovation of the Callaghan Park turf course proper commenced this morning with the Rockhampton Jockey Club team straight into the works after today’s trials and jump outs were completed.
RJC track manager Trent Williams, the RJC track team, and contractors are completing the renovation, with the machinery already working on the turf racing surface to start the spring spruce up.
The renovation commenced in perfect weather, under a clear blue sky.
“Hopefully we will get a week of fine weather for the renovation works, then some nice spring rain to help the regrowth of the turf,” Williams said.
There will be no racing conducted at Callaghan Park through September with racing resuming, Friday 3 October, as the renovated racing surface requires a clear month recovery and regrowth period.
In addition to the work on the track, the replacement of the roof at the RJC has also started. This includes replacing the roof, and air conditioning for Members Lounge. The removal of old air con ducting and has commenced. The new roof and air conditioning will also be completed during September.
