Noffke is on a roll with classy fillies

While Fred Noffke’s heart and mind will be with his star filly Sheza Alibi at Caulfield on Saturday, his focus will quickly switch back to his home track, Callaghan Park, on Tuesday with his talented two-year-old filly Ready Marea favoured to win the $43,000 TAB Jewel Qualifier QTIS 2YO Plate (1100m).

Former Rockhampton-trained filly Sheza Alibi, with Zac Spain in the saddle, will jump from barrier one in the Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) and will shoot for her third consecutive Melbourne win for training partners Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman.

Noffke says he has raced about 30 horses and to date 29 of them have not paid their way.

Sheza Alibi, already the winner of over half a million dollars, being the exception.

The CQ grazier is now hopeful that Ready Marea, who has had one start for one win, can also “swim against the tide”.

‘’I’ve spent way over a million on horses, so I am still chasing a return, and need them to keep winning,” Noffke said.

Ready Marea, who is trained by Sheza Alibi’s original trainer Kris Hansen, looks to be well above average.

At her debut, the Better Than Ready – Heavenly Anna filly took on the older horses at Callaghan Park and beat them, winning the QTIS Maiden Plate (1050m) on 5 February. Noffke purchased the filly at the 2025 Capricornia Yearling Sale for $25,000 and a win on Tuesday will well and truly put her account in the black.

Chris McIver, who rode Ready Marea at her initial win, will be back in the saddle and the duo will jump from gate three.

Hansen will have two of the six starters in the QTIS Jewel Qualifier. He also saddles Stylish Diamond (Acclaim – Lecture) for Ron and Bev White and Maureen Olive. Stylish Diamond has shown ability at her two starts but is yet to win. Bred to run over a longer journey than the Jewel, Stylish Diamond, through her dam Lecture stems from a great family that includes Bart Cummings’ former top class mare Leica Show, a VRC Oaks and multiple Group 1 winner.

Tuesday’s Queensland Hoteliers Race Day at Callaghan Park features seven races with the first race commencing at 1.34 pm.
