Two of Rocky’s young racing participants landed a Rockhampton Regional Show double last week, 24 hours before returning to work at the track on Saturday at Callaghan Park’s Pink Ribbon Race Day.

Emily Brown a strapper for top local trainer Clinton Taylor and Shakira Stehbens, a Queensland Racing Integrity Commission cadet steward, won the two major Rural Future Leader’s Show Awards for young women.

Emily was named the 2024 Show – Miss Showgirl and Shakira, the Rural Ambassador.

The Rockhampton Agricultural Show returned to its roots this year, bringing together future leaders who deeply appreciate rural life. The Rocky Show invited young women to participate in the competition for the Rural Ambassador and the Showgirl, one of Australia’s greatest traditions spanning 40 years. Rockhampton Region Mayor, Tony Williams said he was excited to see these traditions brought back to the Rockhampton Agricultural Show and Rockhampton Jockey Club Chairman Rob Carr was chuffed that the award was won by two people from the local thoroughbred racing industry. “It is terrific to see our young participants embracing the rural spirit, and we are thrilled to know we have future agricultural leaders within our ranks,” Carr said. Emily and Shakira will be Rockhampton’s representatives in the Sub Chamber judging and if successful, will go to the State Final, held during the Royal Queensland Show, The Ekka, in Brisbane.
