Rocky trainers going head-to-head at Eagle Farm today.

Clinton Taylor and Ricky Vale will saddle up runners in today’s Restricted Fillies and Mares Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm. Divine Purpose is back with Taylor after a southern campaign with Peter Moody and Justin Stanley will have the ride from barrier 10. Ricky Vale will saddle up last-start Cairns Guineas winner Pipistrelle who shoots for a hat-trick of wins after two northern successes. Pipistrelle will be ridden by Ron Stewart and the Ribchester mare has drawn well at barrier two.

Callaghan Park filly Electric Brae will line up for trainer John Wigginton and will be ridden by Rocky apprentice Tahlia Fenlon in today’s BRC Become A Member Handicap (3YO Open) 1400m at Eagle Farm. The daughter Rothesay is fresh from a last start third placing at Callaghan Park on 29 August. In July, Electric Brae won the Mackay 2yo Classic Handicap on protest and Wigginton has a high opinion of her. She has drawn barrier five in the eight-horse Doomben field. Wigginton and Fenlon also team up with Bencoolen in the BRC’s BM70 1200m. Bencoolen wasn’t far behind the in-form Hellish at its latest Rocky start, late last month.

Callaghan Park trainer Jamie McConachy will try to capture the Cairns Newmarket/ Cairns Amateurs Sprint double today with rejuvenated galloper Montenegro Man. The 9YO Zoustar gelding is racing with plenty of zest and on 17 August he produced his best recent performance to defeat Speed Legend and Constant Flight in the Cairns Newmarket (1400m). He was ridden by Justin Huxtable that day and Huxtable is again back in the saddle.  The feature race at Cannon Park, Cairns today is the $150,000 Great Northern Brewing Company Cairns Amateur Cup (2100m).
