Robbie Dolan will be a headline act when he takes to Callaghan Park’s  turf “stage” during the Rockhampton Cup Carnival 12-13 July. The dual Group 1-winning jockey who made national news when he swapped his saddle for a microphone to perform on the hit television show, The Voice a couple of years back will be a guest rider and a Calcutta night celebrity for the Rockhampton Jockey Club at the RJC’s biggest annual event. Formerly based in Sydney, Dolan has been a big hit on the racetracks in and around Brisbane and this season has had 64 winning rides and filled the minor spots 123 times. In the past four seasons, the popular Irishman has won two Group 1 races – the 2021 Spring Champion Stakes on Profondo and the 2022 Galaxy riding Shelby Sixtysix. He has also won five other Group races and eight Listed Races including the Daybreak Lover at Eagle Farm last April riding Exotique Miss. The jockey with the angelic voice was born into a racing family in Ireland, his father and grandfather were both successful riders the jockey’s younger cousin, Jamie Powell, is an apprentice jockey. There is no doubt that racing is Dolan’s sporting passion, and his artistic streak has been with him from a young age. But for now, Dolan has found a sweet spot in Brisbane, and his riding career continues to thrive.
