Rockhampton Jockey Club CEO Ian Mill was elated with the success of last Saturday’s St Patrick’s Day race meeting at Callaghan Park.
“Great crowds there last Saturday. The racing was excellent and the Fashions On The Field the same with extraordinary prizes.
It was also great to see trainer Lyle Wright enjoy success with a winner”, Mill said.
The CEO was referring to former Rocky trainer Wright, now Mackay based winning the BM 70 (1600m) with Chris McIver ridden $10.00 shot Grant’s Patch.
Raced by Bryan and Lorraine Hall of Morinsh, the winner scored easily by 2.25 lengths.
The Halls, staunch Rocky racing supporters have a select draft on offer at the upcoming Capricornia Yearling Sales in Rockhampton on Sunday, April 2.
Trainer Graeme Green landed a double through Mistaken Identity (Justin Stanley, $2.80) and Shamedy (Chris Whiteley, $1.45).
Graeme Green was very active at the first day of the March MM Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast yesterday (Monday) spending $177K on three yearlings.
Nick Walsh quinellaed the Open (1100m) with Age Of Innonence (Tahlia Fenlon, $3.00) and Villa Villekulla ( Ashley Butler, $1.75).
Walsh purchased a Love Conquers All colt (Lot 131) for $26K at the Gold Coast Sale.
In an exciting finish that came down to the wire, only 0.2l separated Saturday’s stablemates at the finish.
Justin Stanley completed a double winning the 3YO (1200m) on Liam Birchley trained Noted ($4.60).
Local jockey Tasha Chambers scored in the Maiden (1200m) on Roma trainer Craig Smith’s Famus Fella ($13.00).
Rocky trainer Peter Fleming renewed a successful winning association with Sunny Coast fly-in jockey Adam Sewell when Tycoon Tori ($4.80) won the 0-55 Hcp (1100m).
The RJC is now focussing on the three days Capricornia Yearling Sale Racing and Sales Carnival from March 30 through to and including Sunday, April 2.
