Suspension Foils Dolan’s Valentine’s Day Plans

Robbie Dolan’s Rockhampton trip to Callaghan Park on Valentine’s Day was dashed by stewards on Sunday at the Sunshine Coast, when the jockey was given a lengthy suspension for careless riding.

The Melbourne Cup winning rider was aboard Dance Back in the 7th race the TAB BM58 Handicap (1400m) when he got himself into trouble approaching the 400m mark. Dolan’s mount checked Itza Motza, when not sufficiently clear of that horse, causing it to lose ground. He pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge and his license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days pursuant to AR 131 (a) for careless riding. His suspension started at midnight last night and will conclude at midnight on 15 February.

Dolan was to ride 3YO Better Than Words in the QTIS Jewel Qualifier at Callaghan Park on 14 February. Trainer John Wigginton said he will speak with the filly’s ownership group to seek a replacement rider. Better Than Words, who ran a course record for 1100m will race for $43,000 in prizemoney and bonuses at Callaghan Park next week. The winner of the Rockhampton race will be exempt from ballot for the $500,000 QTIS Jewel (1200m) at Aquis Park, Gold Coast on 8 March.
