Taylor’s unbeaten mare out to continue its winning trot
Premier local trainer Clinton Taylor has his own winner in promising galloper Presszora, and he is hoping to continue the mare’s unbeaten run in the Turn It Up 0-60 Handicap (1400m).
Presszora is new on the scene commencing racing just last month, winning twice from as many starts.
After winning a Rockhampton barrier trial Presszora debuted in a 1300m Maiden in Mackay on 4 September and spaced its opposition by over four-and-a-half lengths. The four-year-old by Press Statement was equally as impressive at its second race start last week. She won an Emerald Class 1 (1200m) by over three lengths.
Ron Stewart will be the third rider to partner Presszora. Ryan Wiggins was on her in Mackay and Ash Butler rode her at Emerald.
Presszora, from the Snitzel mare Koizora, is a granddaughter of the well-performed Peter Moody trained Sky Love (by Octagonal).
Taylor thought so much of this mare that he purchased her half-brother (by Sensei) for $70,000 at last year’s Magic Millions March Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
On Friday, Koizora should position up well from barrier four in a field of seven and is certain to start as the punter’s popular elect.
The Taylor Racing Stable also has a strong hand in the QTIS Go Cam Munster and Tamika Upton 3YO Handicap (1050m). His duo Power Chic (Ron Stewart) won its Maiden at Callaghan Park in March and Deserae Doll (Sean Cormack) is a last start Bowen winner. Both are looking to win their first QTIS 3YO bonus. Taylor also has Pride Of Venus (Ron Stewart) to run in the Champagne Rugby League BM 70 (1400m) and Flyball (Ron Stewart) in The Silky Sam Thaiday BM 55 (1600m).
From Sydney to Melbourne then Darwin, now Rocky
Shane Sigvart’s Athletica has comeback from what appeared to be retirement, to contest Friday’s Broncos Vs Roosters NRLW Grand Final Class 1 (1050m).
It has been an incredible journey for the six-year-old gelding who hasn’t raced for almost two years.
Athletica, a $370,000 Inglis Australian Eater Yearling Sale graduate, started his career with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott at Randwick as a two-year-old in 2021. He won his maiden at his first start at Newcastle but at 14 subsequent starts in Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin failed to add to his win tally.
In 2023 he was sold for $27,000 to Shane Clarke, who trained Athletica at Fannie Bay, racing him at the 2023 Darwin Cup Carnival. His best result was at his first start there when he placed second in The Silks BM68 (1200m). But Darwin didn’t suit him either and he only had three runs there.
Sigvart picked up the Exceed And Excel gelding and during August gave him a barrier trial at Callaghan Park. He went well, beaten just over a half-length by Presszora over 1000m. The trainer has engaged experienced jockey Les “Bubba” Tilley for Friday’s race and is hopeful, he can return him to the winner’s circle.
