They came, they saw and they conquered … Double cup wins for ‘Hype’.

Tasmanian Aiden Nunn’s training performance was only matched by the ride of South Australian-based jockey Teagan Voorham and the brilliant finishing burst of Hype in Saturday’s $150,000 Mackay Cup (2000m).
A former Irish galloper, Hype completed the Rockhampton Cup – Mackay Cup double charging from near last at the 600 metres, circling the field from the 450m, then running away from his opposition to win the northern feature.
Hype ($7.50) defeated last week’s Townsville Cup winner Warp Speed by more than a length with twice that margin to the third placed Cashin Chex. The heavily backed favourite Mahagoni ran fourth.
Hype’s strong finishing winning performance was almost identical to his Rockhampton win. A 7YO gelding by Siyouni from Eavesdrop, Hype was floated from Nunn’s Beaudesert base to Rockhampton last Friday, then from Rockhampton to Mackay Saturday morning. All up a road trip of over 1,040km towing a horse float taking over 12 hours.
Voorham made the trek from Adelaide to reunite with Hype for a 100% record on the galloper. Nunn took Hype back to Beaudesert via Rockhampton Saturday evening. The galloper will go for a break while Nunn plays polo in New South Wales during the spring, then he will be readied for the Tasmanian Summer Cups.
