Long time RJC chairman steps down due to health issues.

The Rockhampton Jockey Club announced today that Rob Carr has stepped down from the committee and the position of chairman, after a decade of leadership, due to health issues.
Mr. Carr has been dealing with health issues and has had surgery on his right Achilles tendon which developed into a more serious infection issue, resulting in 26 days in hospital, and ongoing treatment.
Because his treatment is taking place in Brisbane, Mr. Carr said he can no longer commit the time required for the Club committee or the role of chairman.
Mr. Carr and his wife Leonie are back in Brisbane next week, where Rob will have more treatment.
“It is sad for me to be leaving the club with so much still to achieve, but it is time to make Leonie and myself our number one priority, and we must also care for our ever-growing family,” Mr. Carr said.
Mr. Carr has been chairman of the RJC since 2016 and achieved so much during his voluntary tenure.
His daily involvement, attendance at committee and race meetings, leadership on projects, collaboration with key partners, and developer experience has been a trademark of his success at the RJC.
Mr. Carr has had a daily presence at the Club, rarely missing a committee or race meeting and has led many successful projects, collaborating closely with major sponsors, Racing Queensland and Rockhampton Regional Council.
His development experience has greatly benefited the RJC.
Mr. Carr’s achievements at Callaghan Park include track and facility upgrades including the design and voluntary project management of the Callaghan Park Member’s Lounge improvements, the construction of the new administration office, chairman’s lounge, viewing deck and owners and trainers bar, plus many other renovations.
He has also driven the Club’s strategic and master plans and worked with Racing Queensland and Rockhampton Regional Council on current and future development planning.
RJC deputy chairman Brandon Diplock will step into the position of interim chairman until the Club’s annual general meeting to be held in September.
