Sad passing of Wendy Mulry today.

Rockhampton Jockey Club officials and racing industry participants woke up to the sad news today of the passing of long serving committee member Wendy Mulry.
Wendy, a former TV personality, and travel business owner, has been a Rockhampton Jockey Club treasure for well over a decade.
The Club’s deputy chairman Bill Ouston who was chairing the management committee when Wendy was first elected in 2013, penned a note to her, when he realised that she wasn’t doing so well, earlier this month.
His words captured the marvelous lady’s time representing the membership of the RJC, so well.
“You’ve done an excellent job on the committee and have been a consistent voice of reason throughout the many ups and downs over the 13 years, and you have left a lasting impact on Callaghan Park. I’m sure that’s the same for Rocky in general, the note began.
“There are a lot of memories that people share about the business acumen and even more about the entertaining times spent with Wendy Mulry!
“One Wendy Mulry story that I sometimes share is the one you told me about when you were joining the gym.”
Bill and Wendy’s banter went something like this:
Do you drink alcohol? Yes, I do. What do you drink? Champagne. How often do you drink it? Most days. How many glasses do you have? Well, you can’t put the cork back in a bottle of Champagne!
That’s how it went; Bloody funny, and it’s Wendy to a tee.
Wendy’s husband Bob and their race caller son Liam, both exceptionally well known to all in racing, were at Callaghan Park this month for the race that the RJC holds annually in memory of Wendy’s father Chas Jones. The Chas Jones Memorial Trophy takes pride of place each year during the Rockhampton Cup Carnival.
Bill told Wendy in his letter that it was great to see Bob and Liam over there (at Callaghan Park) with the boys the other day. “Hopefully, the lads might follow on and someday they might be able to boast that their grandmother and great grandfather were Committee members like them,” Bill wrote.
He closed in saying, “Anyhow take care and I hope to catch up again sometime soon.”
Unfortunately, father time didn’t let that happen.
RJC chairman Brandon Diplock and all the RJC committee, like everyone that knew Wendy, have taken the passing of their fellow committee member with great sadness.
The RJC will set Wendy’s table on the glass in the members lounge, one last time, tomorrow in memory of her and all of the wonderful race days she shared with Bob, family and friends at Callaghan Park.
Black armbands will be worn by all jockeys in race three at Callaghan Park tomorrow, in respect to and with thanks to Wendy’s contribution to the RJC and racing and events in Rockhampton in general.
A celebration of Wendy’s life will be held at Callaghan Park on 14 August, with other details to follow.
Rest in Peace, dear Wendy, your memory will forever live in our hearts. You were a light that guided us with kindness, love and strength.
